What is in the Beautiful Mind of Dr.
Tanner?
Dr. Tanner is now 12 years into the laboratory of
life and he has made many interesting observations about
our world as we know it today. First of all, he wants
you all to know there are over 45,000 man-made chemicals
floating around in the air, water, food, and soils.
Unfortunately, most of them are toxins of one kind or
another some pseudoscientist came up with while trying
to justify his job. The sad part is he didn't use the
7-generation law of the Native Americans when he came up
with his example of S.W.A.G. (scientific wild ass
guessing) idea in the first place. The 7-generation rule
simply required that the individual who wanted to make a
change in our daily lives had to project out the effect
it would have on the community 7 generations down the
road. Scientists of our day do not even consider the
potential for disaster when they decide to make an
herbicide, pesticide, chemical, medicine, bomb,
biological toxin or microbe, etc. All they base their
decision on is ........................drum roll, "If we
can do it, DO IT no matter what." Sad, but
true.
So Dr Tanner has decided to give some
suggestions on how to survive in a toxic world and have
fun doing it. First rule, do not worry, that is the most
toxic substance made by man and you do have control over
that one. It is an inside
job.
We are into the spring, wood or
liver/gallbladder season of the year according to TCM
(traditional Chinese Medicine). This is when the liver
and gallbladder are most susceptible to damage and need
our help to stay as healthy as possible. Guess what
happens in the spring? People go crazy and strap on the
RoundUp and other forms of weed killers and blast away
anything they didn’t plant themselves. Of course, those
of us who do that are insidiously killing ourselves and
our animals, sad to say.
What can each of us do? Do not buy or use
herbicides or pesticides of any kind in your home, yard
or on your pets. You can learn all about natural
ways to keep your home, pet and yard free of parasites
by going to our page on fleas and ticks http://thepetwhisperer.com/Fleas.html and our essential page for natural
prevention of bugs in your yard and home http://thepetwhisperer.com/essential_oil.html .
Dr. Tanner suggests you read Dr. Blake's page on
what you can do to stay healthy and have fun doing it by
clicking http://thepetwhisperer.com/pet_message.html.
Obviously, if you are reading this newsletter,
then you already have the compassion and love for your
animals that will make it easy to make necessary changes
in your life and that of your pet to stay happy and
healthy.
Yes, we can easily put chemicals on anything and
everything because the pesticide companies make it sound
so logical and necessary for keeping everything
‘clean.’
But our organic lives are a delicate balance that
requires organic treatments in order to keep the side
effects from the chemical treatments from taking over
and destroying our lives or our precious animals’ lives
with some horrific disease in the long
run.
One simple way to help detox your yards if they
have had pesticides or herbicides used on them is to
spray them down with a mixture of dish soap and water
once a week. Put 2 ounces of dish soap in an ortho hose
sprayer bottle and fill the rest up with water. Spray
the entire yard once or twice per week to kill adult
fleas. Repeat as needed or weekly for prevention during
flea season. Do not spray succulent plants or if you do
rinse them off after spraying them. Wintergreen: 1/4 tsp
per ounce of water in your hose sprayer. Spray after the
soap. This will kill the eggs, not the fleas. Do this
once per week until there are no fleas on your pets and
then repeat as
needed.
Dr. Tanner and Dr. Blake recommend that the whole
family do a liver detox starting each spring on the
21st of March. Take Common Juniper (Gemmotherapy)
at a dose of 5 drops once per day for all animals
and people and 1 drop per day for cats. Do
this for six weeks and then once per week
thereafter, until next Spring when you repeat the
process. You can also use Milk thistle at a dose of 200
mg once per day for the same period of time. If you’re
wondering why we recommend this liver cleanse/detox,
just imagine how your car would run if you never had the
filter changed and the sludge just kept building up over
time. Yech. The car gets
sluggish and just doesn’t run right, making everything
else overheat or clank about noisily. Your liver is
one of your body’s major filters. Since you can’t
just go buy a new liver, it is a very wise move to
cleanse out the one you’ve already
got.
Dr. Tanner
wishes you all a great spring and a very happy liver. A
happy liver means a happy, healthy
body.
Why are these
two good buddies so happy?
Dr.
Blake's good
friends, Slim and Jim, have brought the
following information to him and it is good news
for all our cats and dogs. Guess what they found in
their Internet search? They found a flea
collar that actually works and is non toxic. It even
helps keep ticks off your best friends. You can
order “natural” flea/tick collars for your pets at http://holisticfamilyandpets.com/blakeproductcatalog.htm or
go to www.thepetwhisperer.com
for other flea/tick control remedies that are
natural.
Most people in
this country and the world think pesticides and
herbicides are safe to use in our
homes, yards, parks, forests, businesses and
crops. We have all been duped by the greed of industry
for over 100 years to believe if you wait an hour after
you spray these toxins on the ground they somehow
magically are no longer toxic to you or your beloved
pets. Wrong!
I
have had countless cases of animals with chronic
illnesses that come up once a month and no one can
figure out why they vomit, lose their appetite,
have diarrhea or worse. When I ask them if they use
chemicals or have a monthly service
they oftentimes answer, ‘yes.’ When asked
when symptoms present themselves, it turns out it
is right after the home and yard are treated with these
supposedly safe chemicals.
You can go to http://www.chem-tox.com/pesticides/ and become informed about the dangers of
these products and share this with all you know. The
only way we are going to help our animals and ourselves
get healthier is to create a healthier world in which we
can live.
Start by using natural fertilizers and pest
control in your yards and homes. You can read about some
the natural essential oils you can use for this purpose
on my essential oil page http://thepetwhisperer.com/essential_oil.html and flea page http://thepetwhisperer.com/Fleas.html .
What is Dr.
Christian upset about now?
Recently Dr. Christian Blake, 7
years old, found out one of his good buddies,
Haiti the Hawk had been
killed at
Tufts
University
,
Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine because the
school did not believe in integrative veterinary
medicine. He is asking all his readers to help him write
the people who can make the changes he wants to see
in this world become a reality.
Haiti
the Hawk is killed by Tufts
University
Cummings
School
of Veterinary Medicine
On
February 25, 2010, less than one month after a Red Tail
Hawk (who we fondly called
Haiti)
was rescued by the Hopkinton Police and Fire Departments
and hand delivered to MASH Main Street Animal Services
of Hopkinton for veterinary care, it was killed by
euthanasia at Tufts University Cummings School of
Veterinary Medicine. The police officers had stopped
traffic and with care and compassion brought the bird to
MASH to try to save its life. It was a community
responsibility to save Haiti.
The
injured bird, who was hit in the head by a car and
suffered both head and eye trauma presented with both
eyes swollen shut and a skull swollen and bruised. It
was treated by a licensed veterinarian with
homeopathic remedies Aconite, Arnica, Heliboruos, Natrum
Sulfate, Ozone therapy and other integrative modalities
for trauma and head injury for 6 days. The sex of a red
tailed hawk is difficult to determine but we will use
“he.”
Haiti
’s
health progressed positively and photographs that were
taken bear witness that he was becoming strong and
vibrant. It was assumed that it had a possible skull
fracture and brain bleeding as the car accident was so
severe.
Haiti
exhibited a good appetite within 2 days and his
swellings were down by 90% and left eye was opening
normally. With the application of both essential
oils and Bach Flower remedies as well as the deep
positive attitude of all people caring for Haiti, the
bird was relaxed enough to be handled with ease by
veterinarians and technicians.
As
Haiti
’s
health improved, MASH requested that a licensed falconer
continue the prescribed healing regimen, with daily
communication between the veterinarians and the
falconer. Precisely one day after
Haiti
was
entrusted to the falconer, Tufts intervened and stated
that Fish and Wildlife demanded that the falconer
relinquish the bird to Tufts. Tufts desired to be the
only one to treat the bird and claimed that they only
wanted a “professional” to care for the
bird.
Though
healing had occurred, Tufts would not allow any
integrative care to continue on the bird (which had been
provided with alternative therapies including,
homeopathy, ozone therapy, herbs, Reiki, Tong Ren and
nutraceuticals support). Dr. Margo Roman, a veterinarian
with over 32 years of clinical experience, and also well
versed on the subject of alternative/complementary
medicine, published author , national and international
lecturer and former faculty member of Tufts veterinary
school volunteered her services to help continue
treatment and care of the bird. Tufts emailed Dr.
Roman and reported that Fish and Wildlife does not
allow complementary and alternative medical care to
wildlife. Dr.Tom French (employed by Fish and
Wildlife) and Dr. Flo Tseng (director of the
Wildlife Clinic at Tufts) had the bird euthanized
because they felt the vision was impaired; they made
what Dr. Roman felt was a premature decision to
euthanize
Haiti
. Head
injuries take time and with holistic and energetic
healing techniques the brain would have had more time to
heal. During the seven days at MASH, significant
improvement had been noted and, in Dr. Roman’s opinion,
more time was needed before a thorough evaluation could
be made as to the destiny of the bird. Since the
bird had exhibited a healthy appetite, Dr. Roman did not
feel the bird was suffering so as to warrant killing the
bird.
Tuft’s
Veterinary
School
maintained
the attitude that if they could not help the
bird, then no one should attempt to. Thus, the
bird was killed. Although euthanasia is an option,
there were consistent offers to have MASH provide
treatment cost free to have additional time to care for
the bird. Care would have included Cranial Sacral, ozone
therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy to address the
severe head injury. The repeated offers for professional
integrative care were denied. The bird was not suffering
and giving more time with added care may have helped
Haiti
heal
enough to be allowed to live. Tufts chose to
euthanize the bird rather than allow
integrative and comprehensive care a chance to help
heal the bird. This policy of the wildlife clinic needs
to be re-evaluated. It should be noted that public
awareness and interest has increased dramatically in the
past 20 years, as can be witnessed by the exponential
growth in the alternative areas such as acupuncture,
chiropractic, herbal supplements, homeopathy and
nutrition.
The
questions to ask are: If
Haiti
had
been taken to the University immediately, an x-ray would
have been taken; would the noted skull fracture been a
reason for immediate euthanasia? Would adding
alternative, integrative therapies, including energy
medicine for a longer period of time given the animal
more opportunities to heal? Destroying the bird stops
any chance of seeking out more ways to help animals
heal.
Haiti
the red tailed hawk was saved by the community of
Hopkinton and this was a wrongful death that was
committed due to the University’s closed-minded
attitude to integrative therapies.
Haiti
the red
tailed hawk is symbol of our American wildlife
and it is our responsibility as Americans to
protect these animals. Fish and Wildlife needs to
re-evaluate what they feel may help fish and wildlife
when it is injured. Allowing a more natural holistic
approach to work with nature should be a positive option
to care for life, including wildlife.
Medical
universities should be the beacon of light that looks at
all ways to teach students to be doctors and most of all
facilitators of healing. We must keep open minds because
our knowledge of health and healing is still only
touching the possibilities and just choosing death and
not trying to do more when more is available seems
unfair.
Here is what he
had Dr. Blake write to the Dean of the medical school to
get the ball rolling. He said to tell all of you that
you can use Dr. Blake's words to make your point.
March 5,
2010
Dear Dean
Kochevar,
Before I begin,
I would like to thank you for all the hard work you do
for the animal world for whom we are caregivers. As a
practicing veterinarian of 37 years, I know the
dedication it takes to serve the animal kingdom.
I
am a dear friend of Dr. Margo Roman and an Integrative
Veterinarian with 30 years of experience in Classical
Homeopathy (First certified veterinarian by the AVH),
Acupuncture (certified by the IVAS in 1990 in veterinary
acupuncture), Bach Flower therapy in animals for 30
years, First Veterinarian to promote Gemmotherapy in the
United States, Aromatherapy for 20 years, Glandular
therapy for 30 years, etc. As you can see by some of my
credentials, I am very serious about the use of
integrative medicine which comprises 99% of my practice.
I
would not be taking the time to write you unless I felt
very strongly about the need for integrative
medicine in my beloved profession. My dream has been for
integrative medicine to be an integral part of every
future veterinarian's education before he or she hits
the street. We are all in this together to help animals,
not to soothe our egos. I could care less what anyone
thinks of my method of treatment as long as I prevent
suffering and do no harm.
I
am going to send this article to all my thousands of
readers and clients http://www.telegram.com/article/20100302/NEWS/3020408/1003/NEWS03 and ask
them to contact the list below which includes your
email. The purpose of doing so is to let you all know
there is need for qualified veterinarians like Margo and
myself. There are not enough of us and veterinary
medicine needs to step up to the plate and supply this
demand. If we do not do this, laypeople who are not as
well trained as we, are going to be all they have to
choose from. In my opinion, sometimes this is better
than going to a veterinarian who says, "All I have to offer is
cortisone, antibiotics, more testing, surgery or
euthanasia."
I
know in my heart, our profession is the best of all
health-care professions and we owe it to our clients and
our patients to offer them everything possible to help
them live a quality life. Pharmaceutical companies and
veterinary schools should not restrict the use of
integrative modalities with 100's and 1000's of years of
proven effectiveness, because of EBM rules and
double-blind-study requirements.
It
took me 7 years out of veterinary school to start to see
the need for more than drugs and surgery to care for my
friends the animals. It is for this reason I have spent
thousands of hours over the past 30 years learning as
much as I can about other medical modalities so I can
truly say, "I tried
every possibility to help my animal friend."
This is what we should all do and leave the
politics out of the equation.
Make today a
great day. You are all in my prayers.
Sincerely
yours,

Dr.
Louie's quote for the month.
"The person who
says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person
doing it." Unknown
author, but Dr. Blake has said it so many times he gets
credit for it :O)
“Unless we put medical
freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when
medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship
to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and
deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the
Republic should make a Special privilege for medical
freedoms as well as religious freedom.”
— Benjamin Rush, M.D. (circa 1787)
Materia medica never inspires perception. The
physician must have the
love of its use, and he
becomes wise in proportion as he loves his use,
and
in proportion as he lives uprightly with his patients,
that is,
desires to heal them, beautify their souls.
Can the physician who does
not love his neighbor as
himself get into this position? J. T. Kent

Urge
Discovery Communications to Drop Sarah Palin's New
Show
Sarah
Palin has signed on with reality TV producers and
Discovery Communications to star in a new TV show about
Alaska
and its
outdoors.
But the ugly reality is that as governor for only
two-and-a-half years, Sarah
Palin escalated a bloody aerial wolf-slaughter
campaign that continues to this very
day. She even planned to offer
a $150 bounty for the severed forelimb of each killed
wolf.
Palin also fought against increased protections
for endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales and America's
dwindling populations of polar
bears.
Sign
our petition to Discovery Communications -- and let them
know that Sarah Palin doesn't deserve to represent the
"powerful beauty of Alaska" in front of
millions of people. https://secure.defenders.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&page=UserAction&id=1723&autologin=true&s_src=3WDE10061SXPA&s_subsrc=033010_email&JServSessionIdr004=ru9fq8c2n1.app223a
